The photographs were taken by Dr. Edwin Lewis Stephens, the first president of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. When the flood occurred, he was on a committee that toured the areas affected by the flood.
An avid photographer, Dr. Stephens's photographs of Southwestern Louisiana Institute and Louisiana sites in general have been collected in albums that are available in the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collection. The photographs are also available in the Louisiana Digital Library under Southwestern Louisiana Institute Photographs, 1923-1940.
