Global May Great Britain

About

"Global May Great Britain" introduced students to the history, politics, and culture of Great Britain. This particular iteration of the course examined certain core British institutions, traditions, and problems through various media, including literature, art, and film. Students became familiar with the broad sweep of British history, the development of Britain’s political institutions, and the nation’s rich cultural heritage. Among other topics, students explored the relationship between England and the other countries that make up the British Isles; they studied the impact of two world wars on the British people and reflected upon the nation’s imperial past and current position within Europe; and they examined key aspects of British culture like the education system, sport, and the performing arts. In the process, students thought critically about their new surroundings and reflected on what British traditions and values taught them about the United States and its position in the world.

This project contains the students’ reflections on their own perceptions, discoveries, and connections made during their four-week adventure abroad in Great Britain.
