Buying a used surfboard

For Amateurs
People who are starting with surfing should have a really good trainer (I mean that is always a must). The second obvious thing you need is a surfboard. Now the thing with surfing is, not everyone who set out to learn surfing end up doing it for their life even as a hobby (It is not like playing guitar, you know). So the clever thing to do during the training and trial period is to buy a used surfboard. Now while buying a used surfboard it is very important that the buyer knows what they are getting into. Often it happens that amateur surfers buy a board but they do not know what they are really looking for. It is advisable to have your trainer take a look at the board before you buy. The trainer should be a trusted person because a lot of times trainers and sellers have a pact (basically they get a commission for every faulty board they help to get sold). If you do not have trusted trainers then change your trainer and look for the basic tips to buy a surfboard.
Basic things to look for while buying a used surf board.
- The thing about surfboard is it is like a motorized vehicle and not a land property. The more a surfboard is used; its value depreciates the more. The prices for surfboard should be really compared with other retail sites and should be really bargained before buying it.
- One should always look out for the dings in the Second Hand Boards. If a surfboard has been used then it will have dings. The only thing to look out for is how severe the dings are and how much do the dings cost to be repaired. This also drives down the price of a surf board. There are some dings which are very difficult to fix because of water logging. Beware of that.
- The dimensions of a board are very important. One should always research about the kind of board one should buy considering the level of expertise they are in. It is preferable for an amateur to buy a long boat than a short one.
- Once you have a board and a trusted trainer, don’t wait, just go out surfing!
