Fort Missoula received substantial appropriations from the Works Progress Administration in the late 1930s to reconstruct and rehabilitate many of the post’s older buildings and to construct new ones. This large log-built recreation center featured air conditioning, a basketball court on the first floor and a basement bowling alley. Further amenities included a kitchen, bar, and stage. At the time of its completion, it was the largest log structure in the state. Intended for CCC use, it primarily served the internees during the later Alien Detention Center period.
