Theories of Change

“Theory” represents an attempt to explain how something works -- and “theories of change” refer to what people think will happen when they set a particular set of actions into motion. Sometimes, theories (and the changes understood to be desirable in association with them) may take the form of connecting food problems to broader social issues. Academic theorists may also strive to examine food through the intellectual history of a particular discipline. Otherwise, we might think of theory as a speculation or an imaginative statement about the future of food -- one that might help us understand why people are doing whatever it is they’re doing to support or improve parts of food systems.
