Rebel Diaz
This page houses more information about Rebel Diaz, and links to their projects including the Rebel Diaz Arts Collective (RDAC). Rebel Diaz like many of the artists featured on these mixtapes are not solely (hip hop) cultural producers in terms of creation (as musicians) within the framework of coloniality. In addition to challenging the coloniality of knowledge through creating counter knowledge using the meduim of hip hop, they are challenging the very framework of coloniality's interactions through their community persuits. Rebel Diaz along with their collective practice self-determination (autonomy) over their cultural productions, while partnerships may develop with other organizations, they do not allow anyone to have institution authority over their creative labors. They invest time, labor, energies and resources into community projects and efforts that allow participants to live with dignity and approach interactions outside of hegemonic structured ways of knowing and being.
They describe the RDAC's vision as "building community through the arts". The RDAC as a physical location which does community building work in the the South Bronx, but RDAC efforts to build community extend past physical boundaries as they produce critical media through digital productions of knowledge.
Additional audio visual samples from Rebel Diaz. These videos touch on thematic topics such as decolonizing border imperialism, reclaiming the sacred connection to the earth, the coloniality of power, and how power attempts to silent and discredit disscent.
