Los Rakas

Los Rakas have been outspoken about their personal experiential knowledge of migrancy and displacement. They use their poetics and visual representations in their music videos to signify the violence of the US immigration system as it takes place on actual bodies in space. Jamilla King, a contributor to Colorline magazine has recently published several articles with the artist in which they highlight their cultural production process as well as their lived experience as being "other" in empire.

“We see what can happen when people are forced from their homelands because of poverty and the dangerous risks they must face. Through the hardship and struggle, the videos celebrate these stories and the mothers around the world who risk it all for their families. This is just one immigrant romance and tragedy, a soundtrack for the world we are currently living in.”
