Preteens and the Future

Ways Technology is Hurting Our Future

According to:

A major factor in this generation’s technology use is the way in which we are stressed.  This article states that if this world continues in the same way, we need to figure out how to not be so stressed.  By having the news at our fingertips, world problems and issues are projected onto us.  Even if they don’t pertain to us, they are still stressful.  Social issues like body image and violence are also shown to us.  For a middle schooler these issues are not an appropriate stress factor.  While in middle school, students should be worrying on school and the beginning of romantic relationships.  They should not be worrying about the world’s economic struggles and wars.  In order to thrive in a world where we can coexist with technology we have to make some changes.  While giving advice for parents on how tot change their child’s future with technology, the article says:
  • Distress your life and your tween’s
  • Make time to be emotionally present with your tween- get rid of stress related hormones
  • Technology in moderation
  • Set a good example yourself

What Our Future Looks Like

According to:

Young kids will soon be on Facebook.  Facebook is trying to appeal to a younger audience because it is currently working on a plan to get children under thirteen to join.  They are doing so because in 2012 “around 800,000 preteens were removed from the service through a tiered screening process”.  Since young children were already using the site by lying about their age.  With this new plan Facebook will be predominantly preteens.  In the beginning of Facebook the site was used to connect with people, relatives and friends, all around the world.  With this new rule the site will be primarily used a social networking tool, via instant messenger and for photos to be displayed.  In the future it will be overrun by preteens, and the companies and businesses will fall into the background.
