Confucian philosophy was created by Confucius in 6th-5th century BCE that is purely based on morals and human relations. The family unit is the most important as it’s seen in three of the “five relationships” that include “sovereign-subject, husband-wife, parent-child, elder brother- younger brother, friend-friend” (Columbia University). The purpose of the philosophy is for each person within these relationships to have a mutual responsibility so that society can thrive in harmony. Each person has to pursue perfection through self-cultivation of ethics and morality. This standard is held the highest for the superior, especially for government elites. They are to be the most benevolent who will care for and encourage their citizens to do right through practices such as education, meditation, and setting a moral example. Confucianism shapes the moral standard for China's society that continues today and can even be seen to have profound effects on their outlook on history.
