Intersectionality in Early Feminist Texts: Herland, Sultana's Dream, and Iola Leroy

Iola Education

In Iola Leroy education is as much a symbol for class status as it is for intelligence. Because Iola is well educated, Dr. Gresham thought it unseemly for her to be among the freed slaves as they were not of the smae class status as her. Iola objects to his suggestion of separation knowing that education should be available to everyone despite class status and race.
