This unique transformation from a story to reality helps solidify the idea that this story that highlights an intense and unjustified situation is a non-fictions and true event.
The screen then begins projecting a film that plays old footage of the Wendy's actual abduction story. Because the readers were given the opportunity to physically interact with the documentary, the audience already has a personal connection to the people and the situation, making the film have a very powerful effect and a more meaningful message.
According to Flanagan and Nissenbaum, "If we accept that technology can embody values, the practical turn allows designers and producers to consider ethical and political concerns" (9). The documentary "Missing" focuses on the ethical concern about the wrongful and unjustified act of abduction and cruel torture. The technological advances that make this story interactive allows people to fiddle with this unethical situation, so when they see the true, present-day Wendy and begin watching the real footage of the situation, it brings validity to the actions that the players made that makes the true story impactful for the readers. Technology is an effective tool to bring about ethical concerns, and "Missing" uses it to help highlight the wrongful acts that were committed during this tragic event.
