"The innovative aspect is that he uses layers to produce a three dimensional parallax effect when the reader scrolls and rethinks the panel by centering layers on adjacent segments on the strip, as he explains in his Parallaxer tutorial." Here Flores is referring to how the comic strip appears to be constructed from multiple superimposed layers that are animated and shift to recreate the action as described from the text description underneath. Furthermore this effect makes the comic one continuous flowing narrative which creates a more enriching narrative flow that is not broken from having to turn our attention to the next frame as with conventional comic books that utilize grids.
For example when the mayor retaliates at Hobo Lobo the Parallax.js framework provides an advantage from traditional story telling in that the Mayor's face zooms in as we scroll from right to left. This appropriately adds to the anger displayed from the Mayor's strong words as we see get an extreme close up of his intense frown and blood splattered on his face.
