It was known simply as The University Library until 1956 when it was dedicated as the Louis Round Wilson Library. The beaux-art style building was designed by architect A. C. Nash, assisted by William M. Kendall. Construction of the four-story building was funded with a $625,000 appropriation from the NC General Assembly and by donations from alumni and friends.
