In January 1927 Jones wrote to UNC President Chase regarding his desire to start this bookstore, saying, “Incidentally, I would like to get my students not merely to read, but to buy, books! Is it at all possible to start an informal bookstore in my office for such a purpose, or is that a misuse of university property? The profits (God save the mark!) would not, I think, exist”  (MacMillan 32). In the following years it moved to the YMCA building, then the ground floor of Wilson Library, and finally to the Josephus Daniels Student Stores building in 1968.
