2. A third speaker is now featured. Auden uses personification to give the clocks a voice. That voice happens to be time, which drowns out the lover and says that it does not matter who you are or how much you are in love, time wins in the end. While these two love birds might think that their love will last forever, they are in for an unfortunate surprise, which is, their love will eventually fade away. Time is pretty cocky, rightfully so, because no one has conquered him yet.
