If you look to the right of the picture you see the English attacking the French on the left. Clearly the British are dominating the French because half of the French have their back turns which means they are retreating and running from the British attackers. This Battle has very strong historical implications, since if you look the English are using long bows opposed to the cross bows that the French are using. This is one of the first times that longbows are being used instead of crossbows. This was one of the main reasons the British was able to destroy the French, since longbows are a lot quicker and faster than crossbows. This switch to longbows is extremely important in European warfare because this battle led to the complete decline of mounted knights as the long bowmen were able to knock them down from far away. This led to England becoming a world power as King Edward marched on to Calais and made the French surrender in 1347. Also you can see how shocked they are because they were not expecting the longbows to cause such issues for them. The artist of this peace paid for close attention to detail to show that even though the English had horses, they were not the focus since the longbow men are at the forefront of the image and the horses are future back. On the French side you see only one successful cross bowmen, and all the others are reloading which shows in the inefficiency of the cross bows. Lastly you see more people dead on the French side because more Frenchmen died in the battle, as opposed to the only hundred that died from the English side. plain 2016-10-31T08:08:17-07:00 15th Century Battle of Crecy JPEG Loyset LiƩdet, Froissart Jake Giladi 0faa501cb5174a4966374c720f5c51a6b26e45d4
