ENG 283E: Our Premodern Epics: How Epics Create Culture and Vice Versa

Malory's Morte Darthur

Thomas Malory may or may not have taken advantage of chaotic political rule to challenge the legal status quo during the Wars of the Roses. Charged with numerous political and petty crimes, he ended up a prisoner of the Tower of London and, in his imprisonment, reclaimed King Arthur for the English with his Morte Darthur. King Arthur still reigns as Once and Future King, despite the politics and culture of the new millennium.
