The final victory is tangible.

The third and final victory is in the fact that no turnips will be served. In the vein of a warrior in enemy territory, the young girl is both silent--she notes only to herself that the turnips are not served--and also exclamatory--"I whooped in my heart" (Bonnin 61). The combination of exclamatory silence reflects the larger arc of her resistance where her moves are calculated and tactful and where even the perpetrating forces cannot fully comprehend the methods of her force. Still, in the end, the turnips are not served.
