Tekahionwake

Originally her grandfather’s Mohawk name, Johnson took on Tekahionwake as a stage name (as well as a name to be printed in her texts) around when she published The White Wampum (Gerson, 432). Placed in parentheses and in rendered in much smaller typeface than “Miss E. Pauline Johnson,” this reference to her Mohawk identity is offered some level of centrality while being comparatively de-emphasized.
