Defining extended family

Even where the litigation presents opportunities of continued placement in Native homes, it relies on definitions of extended family which cannot see themselves outside of settler logics. Even in extending the definition of biological relations, the clause does not have the capacity to encompass Native understandings of kinship--such as Dakota methods of incorporating other nations and tribes (as seen in Bonnin's story "A Warrior's Daughter")
