Cyclone of civilization

Settler colonialism is that “cyclone of civilization [which] rolled westward” to emphasize the consumptive nature of colonialism that dispossesses Indigenous peoples (4). Cyclones rotate around a center but importantly have a forward motion, in this case, westward. Water systems here are not static but are constituted by change. A similar kind of circular motion and directionality is attribute to the storm-cloud of settler colonialism which “rolled” across the land.
