The most significant authenticating move that this "Brief History" undertakes is at the bottom of the page where the publisher certifies the validity of this testament by virtue of having known Simon Pokagon for thirty-eight years. Despite the portrait of him, the history provided, and his iconic stamped signature on the back cover of the birch bark, the white publisher C.H. Engel’s quotation establishes credibility for Pokagon and his publication, which likely was the most significant act of authenticity that white readers would have recognized.
