Dole vs. Gary Hirchberg
I believe Dole is very conscious about their sustainability methods across the globe and I think Gary Hirschfeld would be very impressed that a company as large as Dole has much success with sustainability. The most convincing reason for this is the water management pillar in Dole's sustainability practice model. The water reduced packing plants are on a local level, which is exactly what Gary is striving large-scale industries to consider and implement in their efforts to receive greater profits by being more sustainable in their local branches.
In the early nineties, Dole introduced some remote areas of the Philippines to the Mobile Banana Processor - a miniature version of a standard packing plant, but with a 97% reduction in water use compared to standard plants.
