I’m not sure if my parents bought the building that housed the Primalon Ballroom, or if they leased the building. It was my mother who named the club The Primalon Ballroom. She was a very creative woman. My parents originally operated the business as a roller-skating rink, and then began promoting music. During the weekdays, the Primalon operated as a roller-skating rink, and on the weekends, when they could book the bands, it was operated as a nightclub. My parents were Black, and they promoted Black blues bands, and consequently the majority of their patrons were also Black.” - Lawanna Taylor
