Best Practices

Save often, it's not automatic!

This is especially important when you're making changes in the Dashboard.

Have a structure in mind

Scalar books are very flexible. It's not hard to make changes as you go, but it helps to have an idea in mind of the sort of structure that you'd like to implement. When you initially add everything to the book it can feel like a big unconnected pile of content.

Name everything consistently and clearly

Make sure that each piece of content that you add has a rich description so that you can easily identify it without clicking on it. This will help you out later on so you don't have to look at confusing things like this and wonder what you were doing. It's also very important from a user's perspective, because your descriptions will be visible in the public view of the book.

Work with media content that is stable (or accept that you might have to fix broken links)

With the exception of local files that you upload, Scalar doesn't host media on their servers, so if the site that you're linking to removes a media file it will become a broken link in your book. This is why Scalar has partnerships with a number of stable archives on the web. You can also see Using UT's Collections for ideas on how to incorporate content that is closer to home.
