Day 24: Rebecca Walker

Rebecca Walker was born Rebecca Leventhal on November 17, 1969 in Jackson, Mississippi. She is the daughter of the illustrious writer Alice Walker. Rebecca Walker is also a writer, as well as being a teacher and activist. She is cofounder of the Third Wave Foundation an organization that supports gender justice initiatives led by youths.

Walker writes on topics such as third-wave feminism, gender, family structure, masculinity, parenting, spirituality, and sexuality. Her essays have been featured in publications such as Essence, The New York Times, Harper's, and Shambhala Sun. Walker has contributed to books such as Laylah Ali (2002) and The Modern Jewish Girl's Guide to Guilt (2006). In addition, Walker has written four nonfiction books and a work of fiction titled Adé: A Love Story (2013). Walker has won many awards for her activism and writing such as the Fund for the Feminist Majority’s Feminist of the Year, the American Association of University Woman’s Woman of Distinction Award, and the National Organization for Women’s Intrepid Award.
