Introduction: Sites and Cycles of LA

Messengers, couriers, and delivery riders are essential workers in today's cities. Yet, they remain largely invisible and vulnerable, working for low rates and risking their personal safety. But they have also produced a flourishing subculture and community that cannot be contained by their working conditions. Through a photography project, culminating in an exhibition and website, "Sites and Cycles of LA: Bike Messengers and the City" offers them a platform to share stories and experiences from the city of Los Angeles.

Los mensajeros y los "riders" son trabajadores esenciales en las ciudades de hoy en día. Sin embargo, siguen siendo invisibles y vulnerables, pues trabajan por salarios bajos y arriesgan su seguridad personal. Pero también han creado una subcultura propia y una comunidad floreciente que no puede ser contenida por sus condiciones de trabajo. A través de un proyecto fotográfico que culmina en una exposición y un sitio web, «Sites and Cycles of LA: Bike Messengers and the City» les ofrece una plataforma para compartir sus historias y experiencias de la ciudad de Los Ángeles.
