Code.org: The Advocate
Code.org is more than just a site where you can go to learn the basics of coding. It is also a site where one can learn about how to advocate for all students to learn computer science.
In the United States, there is more growth potential for the jobs in computer science than there are students of computer science. There are actually more than 1.4 million jobs anticipated by 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, Code.org tells us that there are only 400,000 students enrolled in computer science courses. If computer science is to be the way of the future, it needs to be studied more by students across the country.
Code.org is hoping to change that. They have accumulated some all-star partners for their movement. They have also started a major movement towards the mass education of people in computer programming using their interface, and it is called the “hour of code.” Code.org also has a big push for the week of December 9, 2013 for computer science education week. Code.org is working towards everyone having some knowledge of computer science in a big way and is making a splash.
