Code.org Interface

The interface of Code.org allows for the easy creation of code using the Blockly language.  Code.org is designed so that its users feel like they are putting together a puzzle.  The website also has some offline lesson plans available for download.

Code.org structures the teachings around online lessons.  By visiting their website, users can complete a series of challenges.  Each of these challenges features certain modern cultural references, such as Angry Birds or Plants vs. Zombies, two phone games.  Code.org tracks progress through the challenges, and even issues trophies when you get the hang of certain concepts like repeat loops or if statements.

Upon completion of a challenge, the user can see the actual code that was built using the program.

Along the way, the user encounters lectures about concepts from people like Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft.  The user also encounters lectures by Chris Bosh (an NBA star) and creators of Twitter, Pintrest, and more.

The structure also allows for offline lessons.  These come complete with lesson plans and an introductory video explaining the lesson.  These lessons are designed for teaching within a classroom setting.  However, a student learning on his or her own may benefit from the video and a review of the lesson plan itself.
