Out of 78 responses, the statistics for year and gender are as shown, which you may use to decide how to read the data [29]: Fast facts:
Out of these responses, 6% of students feel unsafe on campus during the day, and 64% feel unsafe on campus at night (after sunset). [29]
When asked about campus lighting (lamp posts, street lights, etc.):
56% feel that the security guards are high quality and care about the students [29]
44% feel that the security guards are low quality and do not care about the students [29]
When asked about CWRU PD:
81% feel that the police are high quality and care about the students [29]
19% feel that the police are low quality and do not care about the students [29]
When asked about emergency phones:
58% feel that there is a good distribution around campus [29]
42% feel that there is a bad distribution around campus [29]
What services do they think could be better? Only 75% of students felt that safety was even a priority on campus. Their thoughts about:
Safe Ride - "takes too much time", "drivers are rude", "They take WAY too long to come and sometimes I give up and walk." [29]
Better campus lighting - "depends on the spot on campus but event then most of the lights are not very bright", "streets and sidewalks more lit, not just the quad" [29]
Security Guards - "I haven't seen any since the beginning of the year", "they do not actually CARE (they're all on their phones)", " they just clump with their friends and chat all night instead of watching" [29]
Police - "they're nice but don't know the campus AT ALL", "have police that actually know where the dorms are" [29]
Emergency Phones - "I don't know if these even work. I don't know anything about them." [29]
