Under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, the property is officially designated as a site of cultural heritage significance [1]. With its location backing onto the waterfront of the Mississippi River and just less than a minute’s walk away from other designated heritage properties in the town such as the Carleton Place Town Hall, Carleton Hotel, High Street residences, and more, this site contributes to the rich cultural and historic value of this area. This online exhibit will discuss the historical significance of the heritage site, the fire that halted its century long milling operations, conservation interventions, and finally the importance of adaptive reuse in the 21st century as an approach to architectural history.
