California the Movie (Emily Quirke)

California the Movie: Flood

My movie portrays the experience of an seemingly immortal character 'Coyote', as he lives and interacts with different peoples in the nearby Los Angeles area. Coyote's character is reincarnated into multiple native american societies. In each society, Coyote is a leader; he uses his agility and intelligence to help the community, but is always "a loner", without friends or lovers. This changes when Coyote is reborn into the 1800's into the Luiseno tribe and falls in love with a beautiful mestizo named 'Atl.'  Their love is forbidden: Atl's father is a member of the Mission Luiseno Rey, and he looks down upon the unconverted natives. Coyote is a gentile, meaning he has not converted to Catholicism, and thus Atl's father views him as a subordinate and uneducated. This movie follow Coyote as he attempts to win the approval of Atl's family, so that he can legally marry her. The end of Act I ends at the Mission Luiseno Rey and  El Pueblo de Los Angeles in the 1770s to 1840s, “Flood” follows the fate of the two lovers and their quest for happiness.

Additionally, my site visit is included in this section. For my site visit, a classmate and I visited the Avila Adobe and Olvera Street.
