Suffering people: unemployment, “famine, homelessness, and poverty”

(About how the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 has affected life:)  in every aspect

(About handling the uncertainty of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19):  As a biochemist, I am part of the American Society for Biomolecular Biochemists and was a part of the medical field for 20 years. I am very aware of the research, development, and testing for COVID as well as implications. I have international friends that have kept me posted as well since January.

(About handling stress:)  We eat, go for walks, play video games, and try to avoid all news feeds that are not scientific.

(About effects of the pandemic on work life:)  My business has had no work in the contractor field. I was to start a new position in March and the business closed. It has been horrible without a job for months now especially with 3 children.

I do have a home office that is not in use at this time.

(About online teaching and learning:)  None except honing my skills.

I am accustomed to Zoom so it is normal for myself with previous international meetings and Webex.

I have no students except my children as of now.

(About engaging with colleagues:)  There is no engagement only making connections for post-pandemic work available after the pandemic.

(About new technologies that are helpful:)  Many I see now in development with alot of developers now working from home.

(About “superpowers” to cope:)  Patience, compassion, determination, self-motivation, and awareness.

(About the “new normal”:)  More technology driven businesses. More people out and about after being locked up for so long. Many happy people and many sad from their losses.

(About what will be remembered in this time period:)  Most definitely as it is the poorest I have been in years, but it has been the best time spent with my children.

(About preparing for future pandemics:)  There is no real way to prepare. Savings is a must. Making sure basic PPE is on hand at home . I would have tried to find a remote position instead of office based when I was hired by an office based company that closed.

(Anything else to add?)  Mental and emotional health issues right now are insane for many. I have noticed children are now looked at oddly when in public as if they were vectors.  I believe that there are a lot of people suffering not only from COVID and their COVID losses, but from famine, homelessness, and poverty from no child care, no jobs, and the hoarders that take and leave so little for others.
