Involvement of Korean Americans in "Korean" Music Scene
The Koreans’ high regards to English and admiring American culture are not news. Because much of modern Korean music was made based off of American or other Western influences, it is no wonder why
there are so many Korean-American agents in Korea and in America. Dumbfoundead
is a rapper who became locally famous for his freestyle rap battles in the West
Coast. Because Koreans have a close network and much of the music scene is
about making links, he began to collaborate with hip-hop artists in Korea, both
underground and over-ground. Drunken Tiger, one of the pioneers of rap to
Korea, also grew up in LA in his youth, and other Korean American artists
include Ailee, John Park, Crown J, Bernard Park, and the list goes on. Reasons
for such successes of Korean Americans in Korea can pertain to their global
appeal, or their legitimacy. Now, there are artists like Far East Movement,
Aziatix, and Tokimonsta who are admired by both countries, creating more positive
connections for globalization of music.
