The American flag in context

Writing about the evolution of boundary objects as a concept, Star cites the American flag as an example. She argues that saying that the American flag is a boundary object because people have differing interpretations of it is not as interesting as using the concept of boundary objects to study the complex networks of people whose work intersects through their interaction with the flag (Star, 2010, p. 613).
