Why Body Snatchers?
- The idea of one's own body being infiltrated is terrifying. We can run from external monsters, but not from ones that are inside of us.
- They act as physical manifestations of the monstrous traits we detest about ourselves, and can therefore be read as representatives of mental illness.
- Body snatchers entering a host's body can also represent the more violent side of sexuality. These monsters force themselves into their unfortunate hosts, many of whom die.
- Body snatcher films often contain timely political undertones, and reference the tendency for human beings to be fearful of strangers' intentions.
