International Film Service

A subsidiary of William Randolph Hearst’s International News Service, IFS was created to animate the most popular comic strips of the day, making them into “living comic strips”, following the successes of his former employees who had made the same transition (Winsor McCay, Bud Fisher, George McManus). Hearst hired Gregory La Cava to head his studio, and production started with eight different series, the enduring one being that of Krazy Kat.
