Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Why do you think this film can attract investment from different foreign film production companies?
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the first Chinese movie that had a great success and received a lot of rewards. The first reason why it can attract a huge amount of foreign audience is that China has become one of the superpowers in the world and its industries must increasingly receive more attention around the world. As a soft power, the film industry represents in a country represent its . The second reason is that the move itself includes many characteristics of Chinese martial arts. For example, the use of poison, hidden weapons and etc. give the audience a very different impression toward martial arts. As we know, the Hollywood movie industry has dominated the world's film industry for a long time and people are seeking for something that they have never watched before. In the article "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: A Diasporic Reading" written by Christina Klein, she said this movie is "An act of local resistance against the global domination of Hollywood"(20). Many Chinese film director like King Hu complained about the Hollywood actors lack of real martial arts skills. It is the main reason he uses actors who know the authentic martial arts like Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh. So, the movie provides a lot of wonderful fighting scenes in order to grab the audience's attention.
