Anirban Baishya: Online Academic Portfolio

Bio

I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication Arts at University of Wisconsin-Madison. I completed my PhD from the  Cinema and Media Studies Division, School of Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California in 2018 and also served as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow there from 2018-2019. Prior to joining the PhD program, I completed my MA and MPhil in Cinema Studies from the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. I also taught at Fordham University's Communication and Media Studies department from 2019-2021.

My research interests include digital media, surveillance and cellphone cultures. My book manuscript focuses on selfies and the rise of digital selfhood in contemporary India. My work has been published in International Journal of CommunicationPorn StudiesSouth Asian Popular Culture,  South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies and Communication, Culture & Critique.
