Anglo-American Music Theater I

Work: Virginia Minstrels Show

Virginia Minstrels: not precisely a 'work' but a troupe of white entertainers in blackface directed and produced by Daniel Emmett who presented satirical and racially-insensitive variety shows, featuring "plantation" music, beginning in 1842; the popular genre was soon emulated by many other production companies including the Christy Minstrels in 1846.
