Opening of literature review
Notice here how broadly Castiglione and Infante begin their literature review. They are not yet addressing theater attendance much less theater attendance in Italy.
Rather, they gesture toward research concerning "the consumption of cultural goods." Only later does the literature review narrow toward research on theater attendance.
Better literature reviews like this one tend to resemble an upside-down pyramid. Toward the top, the lit review addresses the broader literature to which their subject belongs and then narrows gradually toward the authors' focal subject.
