Anatomy of a Literature Review

Existing research on Italian theater attendance cont'd

Castiglione and Infante continue their review of neighboring studies by summarizing Zanardi's (1998) findings. As they did with Bonato et al.'s article, Castiglione and Infante highlight Zanardi's "two different models."

Given the authors' attention to past researchers' models in this section, the astute reader should be able to predict Castiglione and Infante's contribution to this scholarly conversation: they are likely to suggest that existing models were inappropriate or misapplied or otherwise insufficient.

The literature review, in other words, demonstrates a gap in the literature or "lacuna" that our authors suggest their research will fill.

Specifically, we expect Castiglione and Infante will introduce a new model that will be better able than existing models to account for variation in Italian theater attendance.
