Earthly Paradise
Colette - autobiography - 1975 - p. 205, 207, 208, 220, 224, 229
This autobiography of the famous lesbian author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette details her life and work as a writer, actress, mime, and journalist. Born in a French village in Burgundy, she published her first four novels under the name of her then-husband; they revolve around a character named Claudine and, semi-autobiographically, her development and transition from a small town in Burgundy to an urbane Parisian existence. Colette would later marry another man--in part, it is believed, for the economic security that would enable her to write free of financial pressures. However, she was involved in numerous affairs with women over the years and once provoked public outcry with a stage performance that involved a kiss with another women.
