It would obviously take way too much time to physically go through all this documents and this is a lot easier and faster to look at. There's 344 items in the collection so it would not be very practical to go through them all by hand. This is useful when looking at what experiences the slaves in North America were going through collectively. When you look up the word children based on the fact that it occurs in the documents 8,954 times, the contexts in which the word occurs is interesting. It talks about one woman that had 24 children, it talks about children not having clothes, and it talks of them being employed which is something we never have to think about in daily life when it comes to children today. These are all subjects many do not think about when they think of slavery. It's much easier to think of adults doing labor and not think of the children that are in these narratives as well. It's very powerful to look at the context surrounding children in these documents.
