Patriarchy as Ideology

Dictionary.com defines ideology as "a system of ideas and ideals, especially one that forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy." Patriarchy is defined: "a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it" (Dictionary).

Now, many would say that the U.S. grants women equal opportunity as men and that there is not a concerning amount of oppression facing women. This belief then would deny patriarchy as a form of ideology because it is not directly tied to politics or the economy.

The path attached at the bottom of this page will look into a different approach.
