Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

The Fort Missoula Band Pays Their Respects to the Missoulian Office at a Late Hour.
Last night the air was full of music rendered by the members of the Twenty-fifth Infantry band from Fort Missoula, who came to the city and serenaded several of their friends, among them the Missoulian force, who appreciated the kindness of the talended musicians, who are a credit to themselves, Missoula, and the army as well. They played the "Occidental March" for the Missoulan force, and by accident, fell in with our near neighbor Dan Cavanah, who treated them to the best in the Cracker Jack in old Tennessee fashion. Then they played a most appropriate piece of music named after a royal old American, the title of which was "McKinley's March," and by the way, had the true ring to it.
In their rounds they serenaded other parties in the city and were royally received. The music was hailed with delight and well it may for they are accomplished musicians. Boys, the Missoulian wishes you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and many of them in the future.
