MISSOULA TRAGEDY

A COLORED SOLDIER SHOT DEAD BY A BARKEEPER ON SATURDAY

A Street Disturbance in Chicago-- Judge Thurman in Indiana -- Immense Crowds Greet Him

Missoula, Oct . 14 - A shooting affray occurred at Fort Missoula Saturday, which at first was thought to be accidental and of no serious consequence. The man who did the shooting was Charley Fisher, a bartender for William Boyle, who keeps a saloon across the river, four miles from here. The victim was a man named Wheeler, a member of the 25th infantry band . The shooting is said to have been the outcome of a rough joke. On Saturday Fisher called to Wheeler to come into the saloon, which he did, and was met at the door by Fisher, who pointed a gun at him without any intention of shooting. He was horrified to find the gun was loaded and cocked. No sooner was the gun pointed at Wheeler than he fell, the charge having struck him in the head  Wheeler remained unconscious most of the time after the shooting, death resulting about 10 o'clock Saturday evening . Fisher has been arrested.
