Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

The Colored People Will Celebrate at the Gardens Next Sunday.
Butte, Sept. 16 -- Arrangements have been completed for an Emancipation day celebration at Columbia gardens next Sunday. The celebration will be under the auspices of Silver Bow lodge No. 2989, G. U. O. O. F., and promises to be an imposing affair. Rev. Charles Cushingberry of Anaconda will be the orator of the day and addresses will also be delivered by Governor Rickards and other prominent speakers. The Twenty-fifth infantry band of Fort Missoula will furnish the music for the day and will head a procession which will leave the library building at 11 a. m. and march through the city. The parade will include a float representing "The Birth of Freedom," and the results.
The exercises at the gardens will commence at 2:30 p. m., and will consist of singing by the choir, reading of the Proclamation of Independence by Miss Eudenthenza Thompson, speeches and the unveiling of a bust of Abraham Lincoln. A programme of amuseuments will follow and the day's proceedings will close with a cake walk for a $50 prize. All of the railroads have granted reduced rates for the occasion and a large attendance is expected from outside points.
