HON . WILLIAM CLARK AND MAJOR MAGINNIS SPEAK AT A GREAT MEETING IN MISSOULA

An Enthusiastic Welcome Given the Democratic Standard Bearer--Pungent Remarks by Major Maginnis

Missoula, Oct . 1 - Hon . W . A . Clark and Martin Maginnis and party arrived here Saturday. They were met at the depot by the democratic central committee. The Cleveland and Thurman club gave a grand torchlight procession and led by the twenty-fifth infantry band from Fort Missoula escorted the distinguished visitors to the Florence hotel. From here they were again escorted to the Missoula opera house, which was handsomely decorated for the occasion. Huge bon fires were kindled on all the public corners. Sky rockets were fired off and between the opera house and the hotel several cannons were fired . By 8 o'clock business was generally suspended in the town. At 9 o'clock W. J. Stephens, chairman of the county central committee, stepped to the front of the platform and introduced to the immense audience the speaker, Hon. W.  A.  Clark , who, for some minutes, could not be heard to speak for the tremendous cheering around him. Many well known ladies were among the large crowd of listeners who gathered enthusiasm from the demonstration around them. Hon. W. A. Clark, made a powerful speech, which elicited much enthusiasm.

Major Maginnis also received a popular welcome and made a stirring speech in which he said: "I undertake to say that W. A. Clark has given employment to more brawney arms, put bread in more hungry mouths, and circulated more money among the laboring classes than any protective advocate in Montana." He concluded by saying that he firmly believed that Cleveland would be elected and Clark sent to congress.
