Metaphor

In modern day society, 'Black Mirrors' are everywhere, the reflective screen of a dormant smartphone, waiting with pressing messages that can find you anywhere. The computer screen, the still omits a faint but audible hum, reminding us of its presence even when it is not in use. The black television screen, that glares ominously with its single red eye while on standby, waiting, waiting for the inevitable; that it will be switched on again. As I sit infront of a switched off Apple Mac, I can look up and see myself as I am reflected back. I notice that my hair is askew. I fix it.

Television as a medium can work much like a mirror. Jacques Lacan proposed the mirror theory... Moving image as realistic, television more associated with reality than film - news, 'reality tv', tv drama. Immediacy of living room, easier to be drawn in. Greater mirror theory effect. Reflection, but black. Black mirror.

Two black mirrors don't reflect themselves like you see with two regular mirrors. Reflection stops at the individual. No future, BM unfounded anxiety.

Andres-
It doesn't tell me how to read or navigate the essay. Are black mirrors a metaphor for the essay or for the lack of future of technology? The writing is good but there is no link to the essay, it feels more like an independent piece of writing.
